Killer k1 gaming review
Not the end of the world, but a little annoying. Pros: Cool flashing LED's 8. I keep mine on steady glow however, makes a nice contrast to my fan's blue LED's. Well it does what it claims to do, offloads network traffic onto it's own dedicated CPU freeing up the main processor. I didn't notice much difference at first, but after 40 man plus raid on both sides in Wintergrasp World of Warcraft things were not lagging out as usual. Cons: The control software is a little sluggish to load.
You can request to load the firewall, go make yourself a sandwich, and it will have loaded by then. I'm guessing it has to interface with the other "computer" on deck to get the info? Overall Review: The on card firewall is a nice plus, if for no other reason if you are concerned with your computers security that would be a reason to buy this card.
ZERO trouble installing. It may look like it has crashed on install, be patient. It will most likely flash the EPROM on install during which time you will pray to whatever deity you believe in, hold your breath and keep the cat off your keyboard so that the flash will take. Replacing the Vista Network Stack and Windows firewall was probably the most significant single performance gain I could make to my computer!
It has improved my online gaming speed overall. The most improvement I've seen is in World of Warcraft, however it has also sped up other games like Guild Wars and Everquest 2. Cons: FNApps seem to be coming slower than anyone wants. Overall Review: When you buy this card, register on the Bigfoot Forums right away, the community there is very helpful with networking and setup tips and the Bigfoot staff is very active there also. Also, write down their tech support number in case something goes in the ditch.
The tech support and customer service at Bigfoot is awesome and they really stand behind their product wanting you to have an excellent gaming experience and not be just a buy and bye customer.
Sold by: Newegg Shipped by Newegg. Basically the Killer NIC and Killer K1 are designed to lower ping times and increase the frame rate frames per second for those that play online games by offloading the work to the add-in card by Bigfoot Networks.
Last year Legit Reviews was the first site to publish real pictures of the Killer NIC at the time photoshop images was all that were available and even took the time to highlight CEO Harlan Beverley in the same story. Ever been gaming and want to add latency to your gaming session?
Me either, but apparently some people do! This can be helpful if you are hosting a game of Day of Defeat and all of your slain enemies are complaining of your 0 ping. You might also want to do this if you are Fatal1ty and want to hone your gaming skillz in a handicapped fashion.
Other applications have some interesting appeal: packet monitoring utilities and file sharing applications that store data on a USB hard drive without a need to run an application in Windows are a couple that look interesting to me. But with such a small install base its nearly impossible to imagine applications showing up with any kind of frequency even with some rewards being offered for them. Many gamers swear by these products, and it's no wonder with gaming being such a large market nowadays that many companies are 'jumping on the bandwagon' and looking into new ways of further improving the gamers 'game'.
It doesn't seem surprising then, that one company based in Texus, USA has taken it upon themselves to create the worlds first gamers network card. With a vision to decrease ping response and increase their in-game frames per second fps , the "Killer NIC" promises to help gamers get the edge over the competition. This concept has had gaming communities split down the middle over its plausability, but we only need to go back to a few years when gamers and PC enthusiasts were opting for the Hardware based dial-up modems over the inferior ' softmodem ' variants to see that it's not so far fetched after all.
However, as with any review here at Overclock3D, the proof of the pudding is in the testing. So without further ado let's get down to the nitty gritty and see what Bigfoot Networks have to say about themselves and their rather innovative product. He hated losing due to circumstances out of his control.
